I can tell what the letters of STEM stand for.
1. What is this class all about? We will watch this video together on the big screen. We just call it STEM at RES.
2. Classroom Expectations
3. Table Groups and jobs.
When moving to a group it is not necessary to drag your chair across the room. Move to that area, then look for a chair that is near you to use. When you leave, put the chair back.
Let's try this: I will assign you to a table number. After I say so, move to that table, then find a chair. Sit quietly and wait for the next instructions. Please do not waste time. We will practice this until we get it right.
Wait for the next instructions.
Without looking, select one of the 4 cards on the table. Flip it over. This is your role for today's group.

Get a pencil out of the box. Please print your first and last name as neatly as you can on the journal cover.
Then your teacher's name and grade.
Open to the first page. Let's fill in what the big letters stand for.
5. Clean up. Put supplies back in the tote. Stack your journals neatly. Supply Guy will return your tote.
When I say so, put the chair back where you got it. Then move to your computer and log off.

I can make observations and collect data.
1. Solve this puzzle.
2. Some of you will be working with the nano bots. Some of you will be at your computers doing the activities below.
3. Open to the first Challenge page of your journal. The title of this challenge is called: Nano Bots
ASK: We need to build a track for our Nano Bots.
IMAGINE: This is where you conduct some research and brainstorm ideas. Test out your nano bots. What direction does your nanobot want to move in?

WEDNESDAY - PLAN AND CREATE
I can use my data to make a plan.
1. Go to your group tables. Select a new job card for the day. Supply Guy go get your tote. Everyone will need a pencil.
2. Open your journal to the IMAGINE section. What direction did your nano bot move in? Is it the same as everyone else in the group?
Discuss with your group. How did everyone's nano bot move? Write down what directions they moved in.
PLAN: As a group, sketch out the best track that you think will work for all the nano bots. It does not need to be a circle.
Take a look at my picture below and the video. Notice how I used a 3 stud piece to connect the pieces to make it curve.
Notice how the track works for the orange and purple nano bots, even though one rides along the inside track and one runs along the outside track.
