3-2 BRIDGE BUILDING

MONDAY - TYPE OF BRIDGES
I can identify different types of bridges

1.  Watch the video to learn what makes bridges so strong.

2.
View the picture of different types of bridges

3. Go to Google Maps. Locate the bridge we cross to get to school. Follow the Ausable River on the map. What type of bridge is this? How can you tell?

Now go view the Mackinac Bridge. What kind of bridge is this? How can you tell?

4.  Groups - move to your group table.
Review challenge #2 and decide what type of bridge you think would be best to build.

5.  Open your journals and complete the Ask and Imagine page for this challenge. Develop a plan for building this bridge. Turn the page in your journal and sketch a drawing of the bridge you plan to build.

6. When your group has finished for today, wait to be called to go back to your computers to play these activities.

TUESDAY: BRIDGE BUILDING
I can work as a team to build a bridge

1. Groups - move into your groups and get your journals open to the blueprint page. Have a discussion about the design your group chose for this.

2.  Select a table captain for the day. Discuss the plan for building: how will you take turns. How much do you do on your turn?

When you are ready, your group may begin building your bridge.

If you finish, raise your hand to be evaluated by the teacher and for the strength test.

Be sure to complete the third page of your journal after your bridge was evaluated and tested. (Create and Improve)

3.  End of Group Activity: Captains will lead in the clean up process. All journals will be collected. Check the floor for dropped pencils and bricks. When your group is cleaned up, Captains will select someone to return the supplies to the original location. Journals should be stacked as a group and alternated up/down in the basket by groups.

4.  All students return to their computer seats for dismissal.

WEDNESDAY - BRIDGE CHALLENGE FINISH
I can complete the engineering process in my journal.

1. Visit this site to view the Top 10 Most Famous Bridges in the World
Bridge site

2. Group Seats: STEM CHALLENGE 2
Select a table captain.
3.  Complete your journal for STEM Challenge 2. Raise your hand to have your bridge tested. Be sure to have recorded in your journal before you make any improvements.
4. If you are finished and cleaned up, you may do the activities from Monday.

THURSDAY -  Task Challenge Stations
I can complete tasks on my own.

1.  Learn how to create an Owl Update article. We will do one together. Follow along as we go through the steps.

2. Task Challenges
Task Challenge Cards - there are 24 different building challenges for you to try and build. You may chose your own challenge, you do not all have to do the same one. Build it on your own and then try another.

Hands on manipulative puzzles - you may also work on solving some of the brain puzzles I have in the room.

Work on Owl Update articles on your own or with a partner.

We may start journal check today if we have time.

FRIDAY  - JOURNAL CHECK & FUN FRIDAY TIME
I can review my journal for completion

1. I will call you over to update your journals
2.  You may have Free Fun Friday time if your work was completed for the week.
