3-4 STORM THE CASTLE

MONDAY - CATAPULTS
I can create an inventory list for my catapult.

2.  Watch the video below about one type of catapult.
3. Your Challenge.

4. Use the new 1 page STEM Challenge sheet to get started. Complete the first 3 sections.

ASK - what are you trying to build?
IMAGINE - how will it work?
PLAN -what supplies do you need? Make an inventory list to make sure you have all the right pieces. Sketch a picture of your catapult next to your list.

5.  Show the teacher your STEM sheet ASK, IMAGINE, AND PLAN completed. Then you will get permission to get your tote and start construction.
6.  When not working on the Challenges, you may do these activities below.

TUESDAY: CONSTRUCT YOUR CATAPULT
I can identify a fulcrum in a simple machine.
Vocabulary word: fulcrum


1. Watch the video about levers.

2.  Finish building your catapult. When you have it built, ask to go into the testing area for some practice. Be sure to record on your STEM Project sheet how your catapult worked. Tell if you needed to make any adjustments and what changes you will make. Once your catapult works, you may stop for today.
 
3.  Return your tote and you may do the following activities below.

WEDNESDAY - STORM THE CASTLE
I can calculate a score for my catapult launches.

1. How accurate does your catapult work? Your team will face challenges to test out your catapult. This is just for fun, but we will record points for each category.

Test 1, can your catapult project rocks over the wall?

Test 2, can you land in specific target areas?

Test 3, Can your catapult knock an object over?
2. As a team, return to your seats and calculate your total points earned.

3.  Return your tote and you may do the following activities below.

​THURSDAY -  COMPLETING YOUR JOURNALS

I can review my journal for any missing sections.
1.  If you did not complete the activities from yesterday, please do those first.

2. Make sure you have your photo taken with your catapult. Use the tablets to have someone take your photo and email it to me.

3.  Complete your STEM Challenge sheet, the score sheet from the games, and get a photo. When you have all 3 items, bring your journal to me for assembly and to get your stamp.
4. Your team will need to take apart your catapult and return the pieces to the correct places. Your empty tote should be placed back on the shelves.
5. If you have everything completed, you may do the following activities.

​FRIDAY  - JOURNAL CHECK & FUN FRIDAY TIME
I can review my journal for completion

1. If you did not complete your journal yesterday, I will call you over to update your journals. Complete your STEM Challenge sheet, the score sheet from the games, and get a photo. When you have all 3 items, bring your journal to me for assembly and to get your stamp.
2.  You may have Free Fun Friday time if your work was completed for the week.
