MONDAY - WIND RESCUE
I can harness the wind for a useful purpose.
I can harness the wind for a useful purpose.
1. This week you will be using simple machines to solve problems. Sometimes, you may be combining simple machines to make a more complex machine.
2. Oh no. You and a friend were camping in the mountains and they have fallen over a cliff. There is nobody else around and you must rescue them. It is too steep for your friend to climb and you are not strong enough to pull them up yourself. You must rescue them using only the camping supplies you have with you.
A tent (3x5 cards)
rope (yarn)
Tape (tape)
camping knife (scissors)
some pieces of wood (LEGO pieces)
Hammer and nails and misc. hardware, (connector box)
pully system for hanging food (wheel and axle)
You and a friend (2 minifigs)
The weather is great, but a very steady windy day. Use this information to help you design a tool or machine that you can use to rescue your friend by yourself and with the help of the wind (my fan).
You may use the supplies in your tote. When your group is ready to test your rescue with the fan, let me know.
3. If you finished early, you may do the activities below.

4. Exiting the room. Please shut down all computers. Organize the mouse and headphones. Push in your chairs. We exit the room in reverse order, seats #28 down to #1.
TUESDAY - BRIDGE BUILDING
I can build a bridge out of various supplies.
1. How high of a score can you get?
2. Your troubles continue. You finally got your friend up the cliff. You are taking a new trail to get out and now need to cross a rushing river. There is no way to go around and the river. It is too strong to try and swim across and too wide to jump.
3. You may use the sticks and clothes pins to build a bridge. You may not use the bag. Also, do not break any of the materials or bend the metal in any way.
The distance you must cross is 2 feet. If you do build a bridge that works, then we will see how much weight it can hold by placing pennies in a cup.
4. Please clean up and return your bag of supplies.

WEDNESDAY - STILL NOT OUT
I can build a zip line.
1. Watch the video about the Grand Canyon.
2. You are almost there. You crossed the bridge only to find up ahead a much larger canyon you must cross. You and your friend will need to zip line down to the bottom safely at the same time.
3. You may use the supplies you have in your box. The two minifigs must safely reach the bottom without falling off. You may not stick the minifigs to the pieces, they must be free to move around.
4. If you finished early, put your supplies away and clean up. You may watch others test their builds or have free time on the computers.
THURSDAY - ONE LAST HURDLE
I can finally get to safety.
1. Human Catapult
2. You are almost there. Your rope is all gone and you have one more hurdle to safety. You must catapult your friend into the safe zone below. Once there, your friend can send others to rescue you.
Be careful, if you miss the safety zone your friend will not survive. Once again, use what is in your tote to accomplish this task.
