KNEX BALL RUN

MONDAY -  SIMPLE MACHINES

There are 6 simple machines to help you do work easier.

The inclined plane is the one we will be using the most in this project to keep the ball rolling, but not too fast. What force will cause the ball to roll down our run?

1. Today you will be planning an ultimate ball run. The goal is to have your run last the longest. That means when your ball starts from the top, it takes it a long time to get to the bottom.

I will be assigning you to a group. Be kind to everyone. Share the materials and work together to make an awesome project.

Supplies: Knex pieces, cardboard, tape and scissors for cutting the cardboard and tape.

2. Take a look at some of the ideas below. Your group will be building a frame similar to the one below out of Knex.

3. There are rods (sticks) and connectors. These are the basic colors, but just like LEGO, they make the same piece in different colors.

Take a look below. You will need a good base so your tower will not tip over.

First one, too tippy                     Good                    Very good

4. Let's get started on building our towers. I will call out your name so you know which group and table to work at this week.

At the end of the hour, tape your groups tag to your tower and store it in the back of the room.
TUESDAY - BUILD THE RAMPS
1. Do the activities, Simple Machines.

2. Decorate the balls for your run, or start working on building the top and ramps.

Watch this fun ball run below.

3.
Work on these activities when not with your group.

4.
Clean up and return to your own seat.

WEDNESDAY - WORK ON YOUR BALL RUN
1. Work on your ball run. Add ramps to make the ball move around your structure slowly. It will need a way to catch the ball at the bottom so it doesn't roll away. Make room so that if you have multiple balls, it will catch all of them.

Could you build an interesting start at the top of the tower?

2.
Here are the instructions for building a car with the pull back motors. There are also some other things you can try to build on this page.
