3-6 SPIKE LEGO SET

We are pushing everything back one day to finish the 3D designs that didn't get printed last time.

For those of you who did not get your 3D print, log into Tinkercad and finish your design. Mrs. Masterson will need to get your file on disk and check it to make sure it can be printed.

If you are finished with your 3D design, you may practice and do lessons in Tinkercad or you can do the activities below.

MONDAY - INTRO TO SPIKE ESSENTIAL
I can find activities in the Spike program.
1. Watch the video below for an introduction to this weeks activities.

2.  You will be working with a partner this week. Each group will need to use an odd numbered computer. Please choose someone that you work well with and will stay on task. I will move groups around to utilize the classroom space better and keep noise levels at a minimum.

-One person per group gets up to get a kit. You carry it with 2 hands in front of you.
-Always place the lid under the kit.
-Keep everything in its place until you need it. Do not remove the trays and place them somewhere else.

Look at the inventory page on the cardboard. What items should be in the bottom of the tote? Are you missing any of these pieces?

What do you notice about the organization of the kit?  The extra box of parts is NOT to be opened. The kits are new, we need to reorganize these kits before we get started.

Parts have been numbered to match the box number. If you have something that does not belong in your tote, please let me know.
3. The Hub.
The hub is the computer that controls everything. This will need to be charged. Use the long cord from your tote to plug this into  the front of your computer. Keep it plugged in for the rest of the hour.

To turn off the hub at the end of the hour, hold the button in for 10 seconds until the light turns off.

The Light is flashing orange.
The Hub's battery is running low. Connect the Hub to your device via the USB cable to begin charging the battery.
The Light is flashing red.
There’s an extended load on the Hub. Turn off the Hub and let it cool down for 15 minutes.
The Light is blue.
The Hub is connected to your device using BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy).
The Light is white.
The Hub is connected to your device using a USB cable.
The Light is flashing white.
The Hub is waiting to be connected.
The Light is flashing violet/green/blue.
The Hub OS has been updated, and it’s restarting.

4. Getting Started. Using the odd numbered computer, open the Spike App from the desktop. Select the Essentials on the left side of the screen. We will be doing the tutorial activities today. Please try to get all 5 completed today. You may need to click on Start on the left to get started.

5. When you are finished or it is time to go, put all the pieces back into your tote in the correct places. Don't forget to take the cord out of the computer and turn off your hub. One of you carry the tote back to its storage location in the classroom.

Return to your own seats. Log off computers and be quiet and ready to line up.

TUESDAY: SPIKE ESSENTIAL: RIVER FERRY 1
I can follow the steps to build the models.

1. When instructed, move to your working space for this week. One person get the Spike tote, the other one log into the computer and open the Spike program.

2. What are ways we can cross a river? You will build a device to assist people across a river. The decorations and props are not that important. The lesson is about making a device work and learning how to program. If you are missing a decoration piece, do not worry or waste time on it. Just move on.

Find the unit titled, Happy Traveler
Today you will be completing Lesson 1, River Ferry

3. Challenge: After completing the activity, can you be more creative? How can you improve the design? Can the passengers have time to get off? Is there a way to get back? How about an alarm to warn people when it is ready to take off?

Be ready to share with the class your creativity.

4. When you are finished or it is time to go, put all the pieces back into your tote in the correct places. Don't forget to take the cord out of the computer and turn off your hub. One of you carry the tote back to its storage location in the classroom.
