2. There are many different types of turbines. Right up the road we have the Foote Hydroelectric Dam. Let's take a look at it on Google Maps.
3. Wind Energy - Visit this website to learn about wind turbines. We will take turns to read it out loud. We will take the quiz at the bottom together.
4. Check out the activities below.
TUESDAY: PLAN & BUILD YOUR WIND MACHINE
I can work with a team to plan and build a prototype wind machine.
1. Build this Puzzle. Then read what is says.
2. Your challenge this week: Please copy this into your journal.
3. Review the challenge guidelines. It must be a certain height and the motor must be located on the ground, not up in the air. You need to figure out how to use the axles and gears to transfer the energy to where you need it. If you get a working prototype raise your hand to show the teacher.
4. Clean up. All loose parts go into your totes. Mrs. Masterson will give instructions on where will will store our projects.
Please check the floor for dropped pieces. Be ready to leave on time.
WEDNESDAY - BUILD & TEST YOUR DESIGN
I can work with a team and build a prototype wind machine.
1. Solve the puzzle.
2. Continue working on your wind machine. Review the guildelines above. If you complete the challenge, raise your hand to show Mrs. Masterson.
3. Clean up time. Put any loose parts into your tote. Carry your wind machine carefully to store it for the night.
4. If you finish early, return your tote and you may do the activities below.
Listen to the story below. Then make a poster using Tuxpaint that shows 3 positives and 3 negatives about wind power.
THURSDAY - FINISH AND SHARE PROJECTS
I can share my project design with others.
1. Solve the puzzle.
2. Finish building your wind machines. If you are finished, Please share it with others/or make a short video about it if you can be in media. I would like to make some videos to post to the school website and Facebook page.
